Job Description

The youth minister will develop a program adhering to the mission of the Guntersville Youth Ministry:

“We are a Family in Christ called to nurture a spiritual environment where our youth will personally experience Jesus Christ, learning to live and share the joys of a life of faith to the glory of God.”

PROGRAM

·        The program will seek to accomplish the vision of the youth ministry by providing a place of meaning and belonging for all teenagers. 

·        Provide opportunity, encouragement, and training for the youth to become Christians fully committed to their faith in Jesus. 

·        Encourage the development of close Christian friendships. 

·        Develop leadership among the youth in the congregation.

·        A group of adult volunteers, led by the youth minister, will work together to institute this program to accomplish the goals of the youth ministry.   

RESPONSIBILITIES

·        In addition to teaching one of the teen classes, the youth minister will be responsible for Christian Education, choosing and/or developing curriculum for grades 6-12 which meets their spiritual needs, consistent with the vision of the eldership.

·        Plan and implement special activities, such as, mission trips, retreats, service projects, etc. that touch all youth at various levels of spiritual maturity.

·        Build relationships with parents of the youth, providing resources for them to assist in their growth as Christian parents. 

·        Call on young people and parents in needful situations such as sickness, hospitalization, crisis intervention, death, and other situations where teenagers my need help, counseling, or support.

·        Have in-home visits with all members of the youth group.

·        Be a mentor, resource, and role model for the members of the youth group.

·        Have regular planning meetings with the deacons and adult volunteers.

·        Participate in staff meetings.

·        Coordinate with deacons to prepare a budget for the youth ministry to be presented to the elders.

·        The youth minister will work under the direct supervision of the minister and under the leadership of the elders of the congregations and will keep them informed of needs, problems, opportunities, programs, and activities of the youth group.

·      Additional duties as directed by the elders to include but not limited to:Preach from the pulpit, lead singing, prepare bulletin material, and contribute to the overall vision of the congregation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be a biblically-based and spirit filled Christian.
  • Have a call and passion for youth ministry.
  • BA or BS preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify and foster leadership in adult and youth.
  • Have a resilient and persevering spirit that is not easily discouraged or frustrated.
  • Strong communication and intrapersonal skills.
  • If married, must have the strong support of a Christian wife.
  • A sense of humor and energetic personality will also be very helpful.
